JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Racial and Ethnic Justice organizes and provides staff support for projects that address racial and ethnic disparities in the Lehigh Valley. This includes researching emerging needs, developing programming that addresses targeted issues, recruiting volunteers, engaging varied constituencies in discourse on equity, and advocating on behalf of racial and ethnic minority constituencies. The Director also organizes and provides staff support for projects that address bridging the college admissions gap for high school students of color, or underprivileged, or who are potential first-generation college students in their families. The Director is assisted by an advisory committee comprised of various constituents who are proficient in the field of education and are capable of insuring the success of the program.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Development/Administration

  • Provides information, ideas and consultation for program development and long-range planning.
  • Develops an annual work plan.
  • Complies with all goals and performance targets of work plan.
  • Oversees the evaluation of all aspects of the program, assuring programming conforms to priority needs and expanding or shifting when necessary.
  • Supervises program staff; participating in hiring, evaluation, termination, and development of staff.
  • Serves as spokesperson for the program and fulfills regular public speaking engagements.
  • Participates in fund raising activities, both special and ongoing contributions.
  • Compiles program data and submits reports as required by funding sources.
  • Builds, maintains and nurtures collaborative relationships within the community.
  • Provides staff support for program committees.

Financial Management

  • Assists in the development of the budget.
  • Monitors fiscal reports for adherence to budget.
  • Monitors expenditures to ensure that projects are completed within budget.
  • Supports grant writing efforts.

Grant Administration

  • Provides necessary content for grants/proposals as needed.
  • Maintains budgets for approved proposals.
  • Maintains compliance with grant/contract requirements.
  • Participates in the Mid- and Year-End evaluation of goals and objectives as it relates to this program.

Program Specific Requirements

  • Researches issues affecting the racial and ethnic minority constituencies targeted by the position.
  • Communicates research results to key colleagues and community resources.
  • Develops community awareness of racial and ethnic disparities.
  • Generates community-wide discussion on race and ethnicity issues by organizing and participating in public forums and initiating news articles, editorials, and op-ed pieces.
  • Advocates for broad community responses to issues that are identified.
  • Serves as an advocate in the community on racial and ethnic issues and fair treatment.
  • Helps solicit resources to support projects and initiatives.
  • Recruits people to assist with projects, participate in services, and serve as advocates on behalf of the broader mission.
  • Collaborates with community agencies doing similar work.
  • Works with financial institutions to provide information on wealth management services.
  • Organizes investment clubs and facilitates the instruction of both adult and youth members on wealth management issues.
  • Develops programming and curricula for the Generation Next Program.
  • Engages various constituencies in discourse on college access.
  • Advocates on behalf of students and their parents when confronted with obstacles to fulfilling their educational aspirations.
  • Works with the advisory committee and other constituents to discuss students' transition into college and what services, if any, can continue to be offered.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in community organizing or engagement
  • Ability to work collaboratively and with diverse communities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
