The Development Officer raises funds for the programs of Community Action of the Lehigh Valley (CALV), identifies and cultivates donors, directs special events and projects, and maintains cordial relationships with community groups. The Development Officer will be responsible for researching donor profiles, crafting and sending targeted donor communications and executing fundraising strategies to attract new donors and increase general donor activity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DEVELOPMENT
- Meets fund raising goals as assigned.
- Acts as point of contact for in-kind and monetary donations, works with the Development Assistant to prepare acknowledgement letters.
- Solicits donations and/or support from businesses and individuals.
- Plans, implements, and directs special events and projects.
- Coordinates direct mail appeals and bulk mailings.
- Works with the Director of Marketing and Communications to maintain materials to be used in solicitation of donations such as displays, brochures, and banners.
- Secures in-kind donations as needed for Administrative operations.
- Coordinates and develops a donor pipeline, provides stewardship plans for major donors, and helps director to encourage donors to higher giving levels.
- Analyzes donor database for best solicitation prospects, and helps identify other prospects in the community.
- Manages and maintains a portfolio of mid-level donors.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS
- Provides tours CALV Programs to donors and community partners.
- Represents CALV at community meetings in the absence of the Associate Executive Director for Development.
- Develops press releases and media materials in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communications.
- Educates volunteers, donors, and the general public on issues pertaining to the services the agency provides to the community.
- Creates presentations to present to the community groups.
- Collaborates with the Director of Marketing and Communication to create and distribute monthly e-newsletter and bi-annual print newsletter.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
- Maintains donor database (Donor Perfect); prepares donor receipts.
- Maintains mailing list for CALV and updates regularly, as needed.
- Stays in contact with Administration's leadership team for changes in media and press release list.
- Responsible for accuracy of data and donor records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in communication-oriented field required
- Two to three years development experience required
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Fundraising and development experience required
- Experience in donor research and use of customer relationship management system
- Experience interacting with a broad range of constituents via phone, email, video conference and in-person
- Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Site and/or Canva preferred
- Experience with social media preferred
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail is essential
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Personal vehicle or access to independent transportation required
- Proof of motor vehicle insurance (for use of personal vehicle)
- PA State Police Criminal background clearance required

- FBI Fingerprinting background clearance required
